          John Chassard Ryan Fogel
Director of Grounds Grounds Superintendent
Practice Area
Lehigh Country Club has a wonderful practice area . Members spend many hours
per week hitting shots on the main range and the short game area . While it is the Grounds Crew’s and Golf Staff’s responsibility to maintain the grass and aesthetics, all members must do their part to keep the range in excellent condition . Please leave the practice area the way you find it!
Good etiquette starts with divots . While members are not expected to replace their divots on the range, the health of the grass in the hitting area can be aided significantly by using the “linear” pattern of divots . The linear pattern will heal significantly faster and healthier .
General Course Ettiquette
All players are responsible to do their part to keep the entire course in excellent condition . We’ve heard the three R’s before: Replace, Repair, Rake . Let’s add a fourth and fifth: Remove and Re-use .
Replace Divots
When a divot is moist and reasonably deep, it is best to replace the divot . Try to fit the divot back in the cavity in the same orientation that it came out . If the divot is shallow, too dry or has broken apart, use the divot mix on the carts to fill the cavity . Fill it to level of the ground . Too little mix causes an uneven depression . Too much causes a mound which will damage mower blades when the fairways are cut .
  New Member Handbook 7
   ]]></page><page Index="10" isMAC="true"><![CDATA[Repair Ball Marks
All shots hitting the green will leave a mark; even short, weak, low shots . It is the responsibility, and a privilege, for a player to fix this mark . Sometimes it is difficult to find your own mark . However, as you approach your putt, fix one (or more) ball marks . Don’t forget to fix ball marks on the fringes, approaches to greens or even the fairways . These marks can impair play and take longer to heal when not repaired . Also, it just looks bad! It only takes a few jabs with a tee or divot tool to properly fix a ball mark .
Rake Bunkers
It is the player’s responsibility to rake the cavity from their shot and their foot- prints when they leave a bunker . Always enter and leave from the lower side . Even with the firmer edges of our bunkers, footprints must be raked . Try to leave the bunker as good or better than you found it .
Remove and Re-use Tees
It is amazing how many players do not pick-up broken tees after they hit a tee shot . There are receptacles on every tee box to discard broken tees . Even more amazing is the number of perfectly good tees left on the teeing ground . Unbroken tees should be removed and used again . If damaged, throw them in the recepta- cle . Finally, it makes zero sense to pound a tee into the ground or step on it after a shot . Leaving tees on or in the ground causes the grounds crew extra time to remove the remains before cutting but more importantly, mower blades are easily damaged if they strike a tee . Remove your tee from the turf and use it again!
