Service Electric Cablevision Boosts Internet Speeds, Launches 2 Gig Service
Release Date: November 1, 2022
Service Electric Cablevision, Inc., a leading Internet, TV,
and Phone service provider announced speed increases
for many of its residential Internet tiers, including 2 Gbps download speeds. Beginning November 1st, the company is making the following speed upgrades in all communities at no additional cost.
• 50M increases to 100M
• 100M increases to 200M • 200M increases to 300M • 300M increases to 400M • 500M increases to 600M • 1.5 Gig increases to 2 Gig
The company will automatically increase speeds effective November 1st. Customers may begin enjoying the speed upgrades sooner with a quick cable modem reset by disconnecting/reconnecting the power cord from the back of their modem. Some customers may need to upgrade their equipment to receive the faster speeds.
“We have made significant investments in our network and we are dedicated to delivering the fastest, most reliable Internet service to give customers in our communities the ability to connect more technology in their homes and businesses, both now and in the future.” said Scott Young, Director
of Marketing, Service Electric Cablevision. “As the average number of connected devices and data consumption per household increases, the rollout of 2 Gig speeds provides more bandwidth and an improved network experience to meet this growing demand”.
For more information on SECV’s Internet offerings, please visit www.secv.com/internet.

It has been exciting to launch a new technology that provides a higher quality
of service to customers while also establishing a network for the future as the service possibilities over the fiber-to-the-home plant are seemingly endless. An FTTH infrastructure also enables the ability to transmit signals over a longer distance without the need for re-amplification, thus making it a more effective technology in rural areas where quality broadband has not been available. Sunbury’s first FTTH project was an expansion area in Snyder County south and west of Selinsgrove. The project consisted of 30 miles of fiber plant passing approximately 300 homes and a few businesses. Since going live in November 2021 there are 146 customers that have connected service. Customers
in these areas now have access to Internet Speeds up to 2 Gig with matching download and upload speeds, TiVo Stream and Home Phone service.
During 2021 grant opportunities for expansion areas in Union and Northumberland counties were applied for through SEDA-COG, a regional council of governments which was administering grants from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). SECV was awarded the projects that both consist of about 20 miles of FTTH plant in areas that
are unserved or under-served. Both of these greenfield areas are in the design phase and we look forward to starting construction in early- to mid-2023. There are various steps that must be worked through with the grant projects including an environmental
review so progress is slower, but this allowed us to focus on two additional greenfield expansion areas in Mount Pleasant Township, Columbia County, and Rockefeller Township, Northumberland County. The Columbia County build is approximately 50 miles of FTTH plant with nearly 500 home passings. Construction is currently in progress with anticipation of service available to residents early next year. SECV has historically served
a major portion of Rockefeller Township with the remaining portion not having quality broadband available due to the very rural nature of the area. We worked with the Township Supervisors to develop a plan to expand the SECV plant into the unserved area utilizing FTTH infrastructure. Through our partnership with the Township we will be building approximately 20 miles of plant with construction planned to start early next year.
The response from residents in these expansion areas has been very positive
as they very much look forward to having access to a quality wired broadband service that will meet their Internet needs for work, educational, medical and personal purposes. We look forward to continuing to expand the Sunbury system footprint via FTTH technology and also focusing on bringing that improved customer experience to existing customers in our legacy HFC plant. FTTH is also available in select areas of the Birdsboro system, and FTTH builds are in progress in the Hazleton system, with customer connections scheduled for early 2023.
